A Letter from Prisoner of Conscience, Ernst Zundel, to a French couple, discussing one aspect of:
Atlantis, the Forerunner of Western Civilization

Dear [Friends],
We sometimes talked about Atlantis as the forerunner of Western civilization.
In short, my belief, based partially on architecture and archeology, is that we, Northern and Western Europeans, were the left-overs, the remnants of that mysterious Atlantis out of mythology. I have not read this particular book, but his mentioning of Atlanter and Dorer made me perk up, for the Dorer are really descendents from Germanic tribes who lived in the Danube-Vistula-Theiß river basin in the heart of Europe.
This is interesting, because there are no ancient beautiful-in-design-and-architecture temples, not even ruins, of ancient cult sites coming near temples with DORIC columns etc.
So where did those central European tribal people develop their sense of proportion, design, aesthetics, etc. to create and then build these terrific temples ? Where did they learn the craftsmanship and the tools, find the metals for the chisels, hammers, the saws, the cranes for these temple construction projects ?
Is it that they were the descendents of communities that lived at the far edges of the Atlantean empire, and simply lived outside the area where the earthquake, or the tsunami, or a celestial/planetary meteorite may have hit the earth in the area of Atlantis - the lost continent between Europe and America, Greenland ?
I believe that Egypt and the Mayas in Central and South America were also overseas dependencies of these Atlanteans.
Western culture came from North and Northwestern Europe via the sea-faring people, the Atlantean remnants, to the South and to the new world, but built less advanced [structures] than they did in their homeland - because of what ? Why ? Had they no access to the same kind of knowledge and technology they had to in Atlantis proper? And were their Atlantean overseas dependencies poorer colonial outposts - as happened to Europe, once imperial Rome collapsed – and we forgot, for instance, the importance of clean water, personal hygiene, and a more balanced diet as well as living comforts, heated floors, hot spas, glass in windows, etc.?
In short, [did we enter] a « Dark Age » after the disappearance of Atlantis proper – but [kept] DNA-imprints of our genetics in our own DNA-memory now coming to the fore in our people ?
Take Lyon, under Roman rule, a city fed by over half a dozen aquaducts, bringing clean water from 30-40 kilometers away. In Cologne, the Romans piped fresh drinking water from the Eiffel mountains for 70 kilometers over mountains and valleys to deliver super clean mountain fountain water to the tens of thousands of citizens of the Rhein metropolis.
The German tribes forgot all those Roman - or should I say Atlantean state-of-the-art public health measures. Our European cities became a breeding ground for waterborne diseases. It took Germany’s Dr. Robert Koch 1700-1800 years to learn from the obviously wide sector of society _______ [something missing here?]
It’s like with many skills NOW being lost in Europe in many key industries. They have to be painfully re-discovered and re-examined - a phase we are now going through ! In short, we simply have forgotten so much we didn’t immediately need ! It's possible that here, too, there is a collective memory loss situation taking place.
I find it impressive that Stonehenge seems to be utterly prohibited to other Greek or Roman or Egyptian military possession of ancient weapons making technology. I am looking forward to dig into this part of ancient European history. It needs to be found to get a clean, new handle on finding old graves, so that we get to pre-ice-age structures.
I’ll be looking forward to seeing it. We now see, or finally find out, what happened way back 10,000-15,000 years ago !
All the best to you !
Ernst as always.
